My wife immigrated legally 21 years ago. ( not free) For 21 years had to check in with US Immigration to reassure her status 4 times to maintain legal status. (not free) Today is required to pay $700 to legally apply for citizenship. Why should unlawful persons get special status? Why the double standard?

I hope for immigration reform too, reform of the current system that allows citizenship to babies born here of parents that are illegal, reform of free healthcare to illigal aliens, reform of laws that do not allow our Border Patrol officers to use deadly force.

Your suggestions may be fine but our government has not been very good at closing up the loop holes and I have no reason to think that they are going to get better. So, with each benefit given to those who are here illegally it is more encouragement for others to continue the illegal migration. They know that once they cross the border their children have free K-12 education, medical (through various clinics and emergency departments), etc. Once, I see that the tide can be stopped, then I'd be more willing to consider what to do with those with illegal status.
